The COURAGEOUS movie offers your church numerous opportunities for reaching out to fathers and families and inviting them into church to learn more about becoming a courageous family. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- COURAGEOUS FAMILY Sermon Series – plan to start a sermon series beginning the weekend of the movie release and invite families in your community to come and learn how to strengthen their family. The Courageous Campaign Kit includes clips from the movie and sermon outlines to help you get started.
- Small Group Study for Men and Women. The COURAGEOUS movie is a natural connection for men's ministry. But both Men and Women can benefit from the lessons in the Small Group DVD kit. Launch these four week groups in October and offer the Resolution Books to participants for further study.
- Free Movie Night – consider buying all the seats for one of the movie showings at your local theater and challenge your church members to buy tickets and give them to their friends and neighbors. Give all movie attenders an invitation to your sermon series or small groups.
- Couples Date Night – provide childcare at your church on a Friday night so couples in your community can go see the movie. Have COURAGEOUS resources like the Courageous Living Book, Resolution Books and Certificates available for parents to purchase when they return. Give out invitations to your sermon series and small groups.
- Parenting Seminar Weekend – Use the Small Group DVD study for a Friday night and Saturday seminar for parents. Conclude the weekend with a Resolution Ceremony, where Fathers can commit to the resolution and sign the certificate. Provide certificates for families to take home.
- Family Fun Festival – Instead of the typical Harvest Festival focusing on the children, instead plan an event where parents and children participate in games and contests together. Post an outdoor banner a couple weeks before promoting the event or send postcard invitations for the festival and your sermon series.
- Honor Local Heroes Event – The main characters in COURAGEOUS are police officers so this film is a natural connection point with the civil servants in your community. Pick a Sunday in October and invite police officers, firefighters and military service men to attend. Recognize their service to your community during the service and give each of them a gift (like free tickets to the movie) and an invitation to attend a small group.
- New Parent's Party – Like a traditional baby shower, host a party every quarter or twice a year for new parents in your church. Have parents with older children come to be "mentors" and help parents through the tough times. Encourage the new dads to join your men's ministry and make a commitment to The Resolution.
- Launch a Single Parent ministry - Often single parents have unique challenges and need extra support. Begin a special ministry that provides these parents with a bible study and support for one another and then have period activities where parents and children participate together as a group.
- Business Men's Lunch Group – If your community has a downtown or business district, begin a men's lunch group once a month at a deli or restaurant in the area. Provide time for networking as well as bible study and discussion time. Focus on how busy business men can be better parents and balance the demands on their time. Put up posters and distribute flyers to office buildings to get the word out.
