Joe Recca first worked as a case worker in a halfway house and then as a probation counselor after graduating from Norfolk State University with a degree in Sociology. Joe would perform stand-up comedy at the Comedy Café on the side. One of Joe’s fellow comedians was a young Dave Chappelle. “Dave and I would sit in the back of the club waiting to do our five minutes. Sometimes I would give Dave a ride home and we would talk about how our shows went.”Soon, Joe moved to the New York area to pursue comedy full-time. Shortly after moving there, he was booked at the famous Apollo Theatre. “I was scared to death, because the Apollo was a rough audience and you better entertain them. Sinbad introduced me, and then it was on. I went out there and tore the Apollo up! After that, I appeared on a lot of other shows and toured up and down the East Coast.” Joe has been to Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain the troops. He also won BET's number one show, Coming to the Stage and recently appeared on Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen.Joe's diverse background and difficult young life fostered his highly relevant comedy style. . No matter what your background, laughter is the common denominator that breaks down barriers. “We might come from different walks of life but we all laugh the same. Comedy should take you to another place so that you leave better than you came.” And Joe’s comedy is a ministry designed to entertain, uplift and inspire.
