A former Harlem Globetrotter, Melvin Adams’s passion for reaching America’s youth grows with every presentation and performance he offers. Since retiring from the Harlem Globetrotters in 2000, Melvin has spoken to over two million youth at school assemblies, basketball clinics, camps and other youth events.
Melvin grew up in the ghetto of Houston, Texas, and overcame incredibly negative circumstances in his life to achieve the dream of playing professional basketball. At the age of 13, his father died. With the pressure of financial struggles and surrounded by a hopeless situation, he turned to sports. Hard work and endless practicing kept him out of trouble. At Eisenhower High School, Melvin led the district in assists and steals, averaging 16 points per game for the Eagles. Melvin graduated from San Jose Christian College, where he was a two-time NCAA III All-American basketball player. He is the all-time scoring, assists and steals leader in the Warriors’ history.
After college, Melvin was given the opportunity to play basketball professionally. Melvin later joined the Harlem Globetrotters and was named “Mr. Globetrotter” numerous times, an award presented yearly to the teammate that most exemplifies the excitement and energy associated with the Harlem Globetrotters. In 2000, Melvin Adams retired from the Harlem Globetrotters in order to reach the nation’s youth for Christ. In his testimony, Melvin says, “Playing for the Globetrotters took me all over the world. I want to use my whole life to draw others to my Father.”
Audiences adore Melvin’s energy and ability to engage the attention of young people of all ages. He has been called “one of the most dynamic youth speakers in the country”. He has made countless multiple television and radio appearances for interviews, as guest stars on situation comedies, children’s programming, and for special programs designed to positively influence kids and teens against drugs, violence and gangs. Melvin promises uplifting, God-honoring entertainment perfect for your youth group, family event, sports-themed service or men’s event.
"We had a fantastic Sports Ministry Banquet with Melvin Adams! Nearly a week later, our faces still hurt from laughing and we are still talking about his message. The Salvation Army College for Officer Training has a ministry in the community with leagues (volleyball, basketball and soccer). We had officers (ministers) in training and not yet believers in the audience. Melvin was spot on in his message - it was appropriate for the youngest (4 y.o.) to the oldest (85 y.o.). Melvin has a joy that is contagious. The best part about Melvin is that he is authentic - instead of sitting at the "Head Table", he made his rounds to all of the tables - got to know the audience and sat with a group of young men. Fantastic! We see ourselves asking Melvin Adams to come to other events -he's AWESOME!!"

"Students know right away if someone is being real with them--meeting them where they are. Melvin's captivating testimony and dynamic personality has them from the word 'go.' This guy's got a gift for speaking to young people! His genuine love and concern for them and their future shines through and I can't wait to work with him again!"
