John Ortberg is widely considered an authority on leadership and Christian living. John is passionate about “spiritual formation,” i.e. how people become more like Jesus. His teaching brings Scripture alive and invariably includes practical applications and warm humor. He regularly collaborates on ministry with prominent Christian leaders like Ken Blanchard, Bill Hybels, Richard Foster, Dallas Willard and Henry Cloud.
Since 2003, John has served as senior pastor to over 4,000 members at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church in Menlo Park, CA. John formerly served as a teaching pastor at megachurch Willow Creek Community Church in Barrington, Illinois from 1994 to 2003. John is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary and has a master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He serves as an adjunct faculty member at Fuller and as a member of the Board of Trustees.
John is perhaps best-known for his books on Christian living, including When the Game is Over, It all Goes Back in the Box; If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to get Out of the Boat and The Life You’ve Always Wanted, among others. His books have inspired small group curriculums and other church teaching tools and have garnered many awards, including Christianity Today’s 2008 Book Award, the Silver Medallion, and the 2008 ECPA Christian Book Award. He is a regular contributor of articles and columns with countless Christian publications and is a sought-after keynote speaker for Christian conferences and events. John’s popularity in the Christian community and reputation for innovative, Christ-honoring presentations promise a memorable, even life-changing experience for any audience, whether made up of church leaders or visitors, the adult congregation or your youth ministry.
